For intervention we change classrooms. In each classroom kids learn diffrent things and read diffrent books to fit their skill level. The advanced group reads JR Great Books. Ask your child what they are doing in Intervention and what they are learning. Please encourage your student to read at home. Thank you!

The Field Trip
A couple days ago we went to the science center. First we went to the Da Vince exhibit and learned that Da Vince wrote a 29 on the back of the Mona Lisa. After that we went to a movie about hubble and galaxies. Me and my friend Ryan made up a galaxy named Brainious because one of the galaxies looked like a brain. Next my group went to the animal exhibit. We saw tons of animals and even saw one shedding. Then we went to the water area and learned that we can use water to generate energy. Finally we went to the stars area and looked at facts about stars and planets, my favorite planet is saturn. At the end we watched a movie about stars and constellations.

Nathan's Birthday
Nathan is in Mrs.Nichols class. His birthday was January 13th. His mom, his baby brother and his little sister came to the classroom. His little baby brother's name is Eli, and his little sister's name is Chloe. They brought yummy cupcakes and Chloe walked in saying: We got cupcakes for Nathan. Nate must have been having fun because he was smiling almost the whole time. Everybody was having a fun time and it was great.

The Science Center
Last Tuesday the whole fifth grade went to the Science Center. The first thing that we did was go to the Leonardo Da Vinci exhibit. It was really fun there. Then we went to the IMAX and saw a movie about the hubble telescope. The IMAX was really cool and it felt like I was laying down but I wasn't. After the IMAX we went to the other exhibits, then we saw another movie about the stars and constelaltions. The Science Center was really fun. by Max
Field Trip
On January 18, 2011 5th graders went to the Science Center for a field trip. We went to the DaVinci exhibit and learned a lot and had a lot of fun. Did you know that the Mona Lisa took 16 years to make and still wasn't finished?!? Did you know that the Last Supper took 3 years to make? We also went to IMAX theater and saw Hubble Telescope. It was so cool seeing clouds where stars are born and seeing pictures of a star dieing (exploding at 50,000 mph) and turning into a black hole. We also went to Iowa Skys and learned about the constellations and what constellations we would see at 8.00 p.m. (There was no stars out because it was to cloudy) We had a amazing time!!

The Rock Wall in P.E.
In P.E. we are doing rock climbing. It is very fun. The wall is 8 feet tall, so we climb across. It is 40 feet across. That is pretty far for us to climb. We have a partner that spots use incase we fall. We also have mats at the bottom. Rock climbing is one of my favorite things to do. By- Allie
Smoothies
As you can see in the picture some of the students have mustaches. Those mustaches are made from an orange smoothies. We got those smoothies because we did so well on our reading test, on that test we averaged 95%. That is our best average score ever. Also since we did well we get to have brownies. Everyweek if we get 85% or above we get to have another treat. We work as hard as possible to get a good average on our tests.

Mrs.Nichols Intervention
In Mrs. Nichols Intervention, students work on reading comprehension. You read Escape and
Crime Fighter cards. These cards have small stories on them with drawings or real pictures about the stories
main idea. When you read up to 25 stories you get to play with the ipod touches for your whole intervention. Intervention starts at 8:15 not long after you come in your own classroom in the morning at 7:50. Sophie
