The Book Fair

Last week we had Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday off of school because of conferrences. It is held every year in the library is the book fair that happens during the break of conferrences. You can buy different kinds of books, silly pens, pencils, and posters! Parents can volunteer to work at the book fair so Ms. Hanson, our librarian, wont have to do so much work.

Grammar Skills

One thing we do in class to help practice grammar is grammar skills. That is on moodle under the course of grammar, and we have every subject and every unit that we've ever done in that course. Everybodys favorite game so far is Subject Verb Agreement: Fling the Teacher. You have to answer the questions right, but the catapult builds as you answer the questions right. Although if you get one question wrong you have to start all over. Grammar skills are very fun and easy to get to. We use it every time we get a new Reading Street story. Katie

Storyworks

In class we read stories in a packet called storyworks. First we read a short story with a partner Mrs. Nichols chooses for us. Some of stories give lots of facts, but are also entertaining. Then we go onto moodle and answer questions about the story we just read. We usually do five pages of questions, but there are not many questions on each page. Last we check our pages we did.

Conferences

In about a week we will have conferences.  The dates are November 10-12.  Make sure you know your time and date.  You will just go to your same class.  Conferences will give you a chance to see how your child is doing and to see his/her grades.  You can also go on the parent portal to get some of your kids grades.  You should go check it out some time. News Schlostics

News Schlostics are papers telling us what is going on in the life around us in kid form. There are six pages of reading and one of questions but the pages may vary. They are to see how well they can comprehend. We usually have one per week, but sometimes Mrs.Nichols say's"We will not have a News Schlostics this week."http://sni.scholastic.com/. 6th grade math updates!

In 6th grade math we are nearing the end of our 4th unit. So make sure your student is prepared. Please make sure your child has all home work complete and brought back, or they will have to sign the book for having a late. Just in case you didn't know we have divided the class in half do to the fact that there are 33 students and some had to sit on the floor. So ask your child what class they are in. Just a reminder please make sure your child turns in their homework. Thank You!

Voting!

In the Lakewood Lobby there was voting! Yes, in our very own school history was made. The entire lobby part was shut down. We even had to go in a different door when we got there in the morning, the main entrance was open only to voters. Voting took place November 2nd, first Tuesday after the first Monday in November.(I only know that because of social studies(:) It was very exciting! So years later we can all look back and say "Yeah, I was apart of history."

Glogster

Every week, we do something called vocab, but now one person gets to do a glogster. A glogster is just like a learning board, but you can upload pictures, videos, and music to your glog. A glogster is a really fun way to do our vocab.

A.R. Books

In Mrs.Nichols class four students have already reached their goal of reading 20 A.R. books before the party! Brook, Allie, Abby, and I have read 20 books so we will be able to go to a bowling party. The party is from about 9:00 or 10:00 to about 2:00. We will not have to make up any work during the day because of the party. So if you like bowling you better start reading!

Versa Tiles

About once a week we do Versa Tiles. Mrs. Nichols prints off worksheetsso we can answer math or reading questions. We check by flipping it over and seeing if it matches the pattern on the sheet.
